How the seed-lot calculation works
This is a quantity-planning estimate, not an agronomic prescription. Enter a final stand from your own crop plan, then account for germination and expected stand loss to estimate the planting rate.
pounds per acre = target final stand / ((1 − expected stand loss) × germination × seeds per pound)Use the values on your seed tag
Seeds per pound and germination can vary materially between seed lots, including lots of the same variety. Verify values against your tag or lot record and calibrate your equipment before planting.
Percentages, acres and optional bags
Use decimal fractions in the formula: 95% germination is 0.95 and 10% expected stand loss is 0.10. Total pounds equal pounds per acre multiplied by acres. Bag quantity and USD cost use only the optional bag weight and price you enter.
