Knowing the exact acreage of every field on your farm matters for input rates, crop insurance, lease agreements, and yield analysis. The old answer was a dedicated GPS receiver — but in 2026 you can get the same accuracy for free using satellite imagery and the right tools.
Why Acreage Accuracy Matters
A 5% error on a 100-acre field is 5 acres. At 200 bu/acre corn and $5/bushel, that's $5,000 in misreported yield. It also throws off seed orders, fertilizer rates, and herbicide applications. Getting it right pays for itself the first season.
